What is considered beautiful or ugly? What do we base our judgement on - physical beauty or personality? By manipulating and altering the subjects’ faces, I detach the subjects from their “known identity”. Creating a contorted facial expression, which makes us question what is beautiful. The materials used were chosen by the subjects to alter and change, accentuate, or hide aspects of their appearance.

Most of my artwork challenges what women usually face in a daily basis, from being excluded from society because of their gender, to trying to change their physical appearance to fit societies standards. Women don't usually see diversity around them, media has become a big influence towards what women want to look like. Having these diverse women in my pieces hopefully motivates women around the world to be proud of their appearance and where they come from. Freedom and power are other topics portrayed by the women in my artwork. Femininity should not be defined as frail and weak, but strong and independent.
